What got you into the business in the first place?

Graphic design brought me here. Always wanted to work in that field, and its a totally flooded market. I got really lucky when a buddy working for a temp agency found Adstrategies and I joined the team. It was an opportunity fresh out of college to jump right into a position that I wanted to be in.

Who was a big influence in your career?

Tough question…before I made my way here to Adstrategies, probably any of the number of artists that influenced me. AFTER coming here, Tucker Jones was a huge influence on the way I design.

Do you have a method of coming up with ideas and solutions for clients?

Most of projects have some sort of basis or starting point. On those however where I start from scratch and that will be fairly involved (new layouts/logos) I usually start with sketches. Sketches then get revised and tweaked until we’ve got the first round of proofs. Then its up to the client to mold them, and we go back and forth with revisions until the client is happy with the result.

What makes a great brand?

It has to be something other people can get behind and follow. As far as brand imagery (considering I’m a graphic-centric person), it needs to be eye-catching and distinct…to the extent that just hearing the name will invoke that image in the mind and vice versa.

What driving career goals do you still have?

Always the drive to design will be there. As long as theres something to be said, and theres constantly new ways to go about designing, there will always be design. Each individual project is its own goal. Beyond print design, I’d like to get more into web design, app design, augmented reality applications, photography, etc. etc. the list goes on. When I run out of goals I’ll stop working, but I don’t see it happening any time soon.

What talent do you wish you had?

Wish I was a better people person. I have trouble communicating at times, getting choked up with words etc etc. I feel as though networking and finding work would be much easier if I didn’t have trouble stumbling over my tongue when other people are around.

If you had to live on a desert island, what would you miss most?

No fair, we can’t take anything? Usually its “what three objects would you take” etc etc. Tough call. Obviously, I’d miss my friends and family. It would suck not to have the internet, or a computer for that matter. None of my instruments would suck as well, music is a huge part of life. But I guess I can always draw in the sand and bang rocks together. Really hard question.

Is there any food that helps you think more creatively?

I’m partial to snack foods like Chex Mix and stuff washed down with a Red Bull or a Monster Java Mean Bean. You know, the crap you’re not supposed to eat.

Tell us about your pets?

My girlfriend and I have two cats, Dinah (female) and Jinx (male). Dinah is the stereotypical “OMG OMG OMG I LOVE YOU PET ME PET ME” cat, whereas Jinx is more measured, usually lurking in the shadows observing from afar, only coming out when he feels as though we puny humans deserve it. In a way they are perfect reflections of my girlfriend and I. Neither of were really “cat people” before these guys, but we both love them indefinitely and unconditionally.

What’s your favorite TV program?

Theres a bunch, The Office is awesome.

What do you do for a good time when you’re not working?

Play music, anything outdoors, video games, movies, etc.

What are your favorite internet sites?

Hands down
